Steel bridgeworks to be covered with original timber facia

Bridge works continue along the Yarra Valley Trail, between Yering and Yarra Glen. The old heritage trestle bridges are being brought up to modern safety standards with the addition of steel reinforcements. While these new additions may look out-of-place during installation, the horizontal steel beams will have a timber facia, re-milled from the original timber placed over them. Every care is being taken to upgrade these bridges for the future, while retaining their historical charm.

“With the iconic heritage bridges, the trail is set to become a quintessential feature of the Yarra Valley. When the trail is completed to Yarra Glen, it is expected to attract over 200,000 visitors a year to enjoy general recreation and generate approximately $8.3M in regional spending per year,” said Cr Child.

Construction of the trail from the Melba Highway to the Yarra River is due to start in mid 2025 with the trail anticipated to be opened in early 2026.
