Coldstream Station Activated
Works have commenced at Coldstream Station. As mentioned in our previous update Yarra Ranges Council received State and Federal Funding to transform Coldstream Railway Station site into a key Community Asset.
Works that have been completed to date include construction of informal walking trails and installation of Parkour and nature play elements. The Contract for the Main Feature of the space ‘The Pump Track’ has been awarded to Common Ground Trails.
Thank you to the Community for your input into the first round of consultation (especially the very enthusiastic children at Coldstream Primary School). The Contractors have reviewed the results and are busily working on 3 Concept Designs that will be put to the public for a vote.
Railway Steel put to good use
As part of the preparation for the activation of Coldstream Station, 7km of rail line and other railway steel was removed from the site. Most of the rail line has gone to the Bellarine Railway for track upgrades and a small amount to the Werribee Open Range Zoo to build animal enclosures.
Storm Recovery Clean Up
The Coldstream Station site was used as a storm recovery site for processing wood that came off the Mountain from the June 2021 Storms. Key figures below show the size of the impact:
Mulch: 26,000m3 (10 Olympic swimming pools worth of residential special storm green waste was collected). This was converted into 2,800m3 of mulch. 17,000m3 was provided to the community for free.
Firewood: 800m3 was supplied to the community with a further 1500-2000m3 to be distributed.
Hollows, logs, and root balls: hundreds of hollows and logs have been distributed across the Parks and Bushland network, along with hollows and root balls used to create native fisheries and platypus habitat.
Milling: Slightly more than 50 truckloads of material was transported off site to be milled down. More than 300 tonnes of material to be converted into milled timbers e.g., fencing, bollards, sleepers, planting stakes etc.
Station Street Pedestrian Bridge
Works to install the footbridge are commencing early August and will be completed in October.
McIntyre Lane – Car Park Closure
Works will commence in June/July to widen Macintyre Lane and install a pedestrian refuge to ensure pedestrians and cyclists are able to cross Macintyre Lane Safely. This is the first part of the Stage 1B works for Yarra Valley Trail.
