Yarra Valley Trail Update – March 2021
Completed works
Council has completed several small projects with more soon to be underway on the Yarra Valley Trail, including a new temporary car park at Station Street, Coldstream with solar lighting. The car park will also soon have new picnic settings installed.
Seating is also being rolled out along the trail. Council has recently installed several seats and picnic settings at Yering Station.
Upcoming works
Council is continually working and developing new and innovative ways to improve our community assets.
There are several exciting projects commencing soon, including the Station Street shared path which will include a 2.5m concrete path connecting the Trail to Coldstream Township. This project was funded by Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program by the Federal Government. The final section of the path will be built in coordination with the Department of Transport with the Maroondah Highway intersection works.
Other works include a landscaped area and picnic setting on the junction of the Yarra Valley Trail and Lilydale to Warburton Trail and a bird watching platform for the diverse water bird species in the Yarra Valley Water sewerage ponds.
VicTrack will be undertaking soil testing works on the North Side of Station Street on Thursday 18 March and Friday 19 March. The Trail will remain open, please be cautious when riding through this zone.
Coldstream Station Master Plan
Council is seeking grant funding from both Federal and State Governments for the further development of Coldstream Station Master Plan to drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities into the future.
The Master Plan includes a sealed ‘pump track’ which allows for a wide range of user groups and ages, such as scooters, skateboards and bicycles.
The plan also includes picnic seating, shelter, public toilet, open space lawn and a revegetation area with walking tracks.
The objectives of the development of Master Plan are to:
- Provide local benefit, regional benefit, and contributes positively to the experience of users of the Yarra Valley Trail
- Be respectful to the history of the site
- Improve the presentation and appeal of the Yarra Valley Trail to a wide-ranges of users

Stage 1B Yering to Yarra Glen update
There have been delays in the planning process and site conditions for Stage 1B, Yering to Yarra Glen, that Council is working through. At this stage, the works are expected to start in the middle of 2021 and the completion date has been pushed out to April 2022.
Our next update will provide more detail on the progress on Stage 1B.
